Enterprise 2.0 is the use of emergent social software platforms within companies, or between companies and their partners or customers (Andrew McAfee, Enterprise 2.0, Version 2.0)
You could also say, Enterprise 2.0 is the realization of the things promised by Knowledge Management in the 90ies but never delivered. The bottom line is, Enterprise 2.0 is the utilization of Web 2.0 characteristics, philosophies and aspects to make Information Sharing, Knowledge Generation and Distribution, virtual Team Collaboration and bi-directional communication actually work.

Successful Enterprise 2.0 solutions will typically be assembled from Open Source components. THE ONE enterprise 2.0 architecture doesn’t exist, as components and functionalities depend on the specific purpose. On the other hand, commercial software packages and components are too expensive and inflexible for iterative and agile approaches like the perpetual beta. They are relying on user motivation and interaction and therefore need to be designed to be engaging and attractive to use and will not only include user generated content but be in fact very content centric. Usually you will require a significant amount of application integration. The success of such solutions in the Enterprise will require management support and role models.
At Optaros we have built a significant number of Enterprise 2.0 solutions, including Endeca EDeN and Swisscom Mobile Labs. More projects are currently work in progress and we will be able to present those solutions in detail soon.
Yesterday we held an Optaros Executive seminar on this topic, stay tuned for the URL to the slide deck.
[Update]: Here is the deck.

[Update 2]: Dr. Ian Howels of Alfresco joined in for the second event we did in Munich this week. His slides on how Alfresco supports our topic and what you can expect from Alfresco in the near future is here.
